Below
Zero Original covers The original covers for Below Zero were
created in a spirit of experimentation. As far as subject
matter is concerned, they explore both figuration and abstraction.
When figurative, they represent the human figure; when abstract,
they assemble a series of gesture, playing with the process
of constructing an image. The common denominator to all works
is the fact that they all somehow remain unfinished. They
stop somewhere, but could have gone further and become something
else: it is that 'something else' that is left opened to the
imagination of the viewer.
The
medium used are varied: China ink or watercolour on paper;
pencil drawing and acrylic painting on wood; ink and various
acrylic media on Styrofoam boards; collage. Another technique
was retrieved from primary school backgrounds: wax crayon
applied on paper, covered with black China ink and scraped
with fine tools, so to create a similar effect to dry point
and etching. All the images are unique works.
